I used to have serious problems with sinus infections. In fact it was not unusual to have three or four of them in a year’s time. Each time this meant feeling miserable with deep sinus headaches. I would head off to my ENT’s office, and invariably I would be given a prescription for an antibiotic. I read that taking too many antibiotics is not good, and bacteria can mutate and grow immune to the effects of the medication over time. I finally faced the question about whether to use or to avoid antibiotics. I chose to avoid them as much as possible, and I have used them only a couple of times in the past five years or so. Instead I make daily use of nasal irrigation using a Sinupulse machine. A saline solution is inserted into each nostril to clean out the nasal and sinus cavities. For me and for many other people, this works very well, and these days I rarely have sinus infections.
