A Shoji lamp is a wonderful source of diffused light. Sometimes they are referred to by the Japanese as meditation lights. They illuminate in a calming gentle manner.

Shoji lamps vary in size from table top models to freestanding models in incremental heights up to 6’ tall. Modern Shoji lamps often use a fluorescent type bulb and plug into regular house hold current.

A Shoji lamp has an artistically designed wood frame with rice paper shades on the inside of all four sides. Variations in the styles of these lamps are sometimes just different choices of woods such as mahogany or rosewood.

Many of the rice paper shades for the lamps are plain, which helps accentuate the lattice designs of the wood frames. However, there are also some of these lamps with lavish paintings on the shades and a few are available with colored shades like red. Whichever Shoji lamp you choose, you can be sure they will add a special ambience to any room.
