Diecast model trucks can trace their origins back to very modest beginning in the 1930’s when the first models were made from impure alloys that largely failed to stand the test of time. Relatively few survive.
Since then with improvements made and new manufacturuers entering the market with fresh ideas and models with greater detail. Improvements in manufacture, alloys and paint have resulted in much higher quality models.
Iconic brands appeared in the early days which remain flagship names to this day – Dinky, Tootsietoys, Matchbox and Corgi. Their popularity was such that they in turn became the vehicle for advertising and promoting “real life” companies. These promotional models were often produced in restricted numbers and have become collectibles of increasing value.
With worldwide interest and clubs and forums about and opportunities to learn about the trucks that have been modelled, collecting diecast model trucks is a fascinating and worthwhile hobby.
