The best party I ever went to was a science fiction themed party. People really went to town, with mostly hand made fancy dress costumes that were completely bizarre. It was like a convention of aliens or that scene in Star Wars when they’re all sitting in the alien’s bar. I have a friend who has one leg and he turned up in a costume that had four arms. No other fancy dress costumes could beat that! Best of all, he had gone to the party on the bus. We all trooped in to the pub before going to the party and got a stunned reaction. We were a bit of a fire hazard, having used so much hair spray trying to style our hair into wacky styles.

Just take a moment in this Halloween to check out all the wonderful disney princess costumes. So how do you, as the teacher, find sources of biblical costumes? One easy way is to use Google’s image search feature, searching on a number of criteria. For example, if your play is about the times of King David’s reign, you might search on ‘biblical costumes King David’. A play describing Moses leading the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage would require a search which included Egyptian dress as well as the Israelites biblical costumes of that era.

He of course comes dressed as Sigmund Freud and is disgusted at Roz’s choice of Wonder Woman. I’ve thought about throwing a similar bash myself. It would certainly make for some bizarre fancy dress costumes. My hero however is Mahatma Gandhi, and I don’t really want to carry trays of nibbles round, wearing my loin cloth and wire rimmed glasses. My husband’s hero is Gandalf, the Wizard from Lord of the Rings. At least we’d have fireworks!

Most of the Disney Halloween costumes are available in deluxe and ‘prestige’ versions, which include a little more detailing. Many are available in children’s, teen and adult sizes, so everyone can get in on the fun. One of the best features of the Disney Halloween costumes is that the character is clearly recognizable. There’s no mistaking who your child’s character is, so there’s no chance the person opening their door with a basket of goodies asking, “You’re so cute, but who are you?” In a Disney costume, that little old lady may be tempted to be a bit more generous, too. “Oh, here, take a few more! You’re just sweet!”

I’ll bet you see everything from a werewolf, to Leatherface, to disney princess cinderalla costumes, to tinker bell costumes,to a dog, to a dragon, to a Beauty and the Beast costume. The variety is priceless. Sort of like with the candy.
