What would it have been like to be a service man over the seas in France during World War II?

France declared war on Germany after it invaded Poland in 1939. On the 25th of June 1940, Germany succeeded in conquering France and they were under the control of Germany. This is when the French resistance began. Charles De Gaulle gave a memorable speech to the French people that was broadcast on the British airway. He said,” France has lost a battle, but France has not lost the war!”

De Gaulle established the Free French government to fight the Nazi regime. The French continued to fight Germany throughout World War II. Eventually they received help from Britain. After the Normandy beach landing in June of 1940 they received help from American troops. France had over one million troops in combat in World War II.
